Border Life is Challenging

Some Spring Breakers will unexplainably turn south and head to northern Mexico next week as they steer away from university studies for a break. Big mistake.
Life along the border is scarred by drug cartel violence.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is warning Spring Breakers to stay away. The facts remain that family and friends don’t cross into Mexico as freely as they once might have because of flying bullets and evaporating tourism.
Let’s face it, college students aren’t the smartest creatures on the face of the earth, and what they should be asking themselves is, “What’s my life worth?”
The big variable is being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Even border towns on the U.S. side of the fence aren’t spared from running gun battles.
Warring cartel factions are waging gun battles as though they were commonplace.
For security’s sake, let’s hope university students and Spring Breakers will think once or twice before striking off to northern Mexico for a few days of reveling. Perhaps it would be in their best interest to strike out for Joplin, Mo., or maybe New Orleans and commit themselves to community service, rather than putting their lives in the hands of thugs and assassins.
Mexico is a partner with the United States, but if a kid gets into trouble, there are not many options. This year, think security first at Spring Break.
